2005 - Troop 157 Cleanup

Before we began, I didn’t believe that 3 Brownies, 3 Junior Girl Scouts, a troop leader and 3 parents could achieve such remarkable results. At the end of the day we removed over 1 1/2 tons of horrible, rotting debris. We were shocked not only by the amount of garbage, but more so by the type of debris and the length of time that people have been discarding it over their fences. So much of it could have been left for Town pick-up but was instead walked beyond abutting property lines and left to decay in the woods.

This site is dedicated to the girls and their parents who rised to the challenge and made this clean-up possible. They are truly exceptional in every way! Every picture tells the story.

The Town of Billerica is celebrating its 350th aniversary in 2005. To honor its incorporation, the Town has extended Earth Day through the month of May.

On Saturday, May 21, 2005, Sheela and Jon Marston, new homeowners at 28 Woodbury Road, hosted an Earth Day clean-up of the Fox Hill Conservation Land, the land abutting the length of Woodbury Road.

Brownie Troop 157 answered the call for volunteers and the girls met in the morning to begin the restoration of the 50 acre area. Our first plot is the area marked behind lot 71, a mere 100 feet by 50 feet concentration.

The Billerica property line - plastic chairs, car batteries and discarded construction material are among the first things you’ll see as you enter the conservation area from Lot 71.

A photographic survey of the Town property - The previous owners and local residents seem to have disposed of many hazardous items over the years. These items include: many old pool liners, aluminum wall siding, pool hoses, pool chemicals, a pool filter, lawn furniture, plastic molded chairs, car interiors, a car hood, more tahn a dozen tires, several large piles of construction debris, old concrete pilings, vinyl siding, several car batteries, a toilet, ashphalt tiles, paint cans, kitchen wares, plastic toys, and many glass beer bottles as well as beer cans. This is not a complete list.
